The Law Society of Ontario needs to return to its core purposes.

I am supporting the CORE slate because the Law Society of Ontario needs to return to its core purposes: setting high standards for the profession, holding lawyers to those standards, and protecting the public when lawyers fall short. The LSO has drifted well beyond that mandate, and it is time for a hard look at this mission creep and for getting the regulator out of non-core distractions. Competence must be paramount, which is why I support a rigorous, objective bar exam and CPD requirements that promote legal skills more than ideology. I support an Ontario where the pursuit of a legal career is open to anyone, but without sacrificing the high standards of competence the public deserves. The LSO must also become drastically more transparent, from what it pays its leadership to disciplinary outcomes the public can actually find. Self-regulation is under attack elsewhere in Canada, and CORE offers the best path to keeping it in Ontario.
